It's been 99 days of daily updates, and I've never felt such a strong urge to give up.
This feeling is like being given something you love to eat; at first, it might feel very fresh for a week, after a month, most people think it's okay, after two months, it's barely acceptable, and after three months, you can't take it anymore.
Often, when we turn something fresh into a fixed task, its nature may change. At this point, you need to think more about the meaning of doing this thing.
The Meaning of Writing
When I started daily updates, my hope was to output to force input, and I have indeed achieved that. However, recently my concentration has not been great; I find it hard to get into books, leading to a lot of video watching as input.
I believe many people also enjoy watching videos, but videos are never a good source of input. When we read, we can pause to think, but videos provide us with visual memory; we can't stop to reflect on what the speaker is saying, so we can only listen all the way through, and in the end, it feels like we haven't watched anything at all.
Recently, I've felt like I've hit a bottleneck, increasingly pondering the meaning of writing. Many people tell me how to improve, and I've taken some writing courses, but I find that none of them answer this question. Sometimes, an article can soar to 1,000 views, while others only get a few dozen. When I see only a few dozen views, I wonder if what I'm writing is of no interest to anyone or has no value to others.
To put it bluntly, it's still a matter of my own mental strength being insufficient, being influenced by data. If I truly believe that what I share is meaningful, then even if it only helps one person, I shouldn't be affected. It's like understanding what the teacher said: writing is a journey of self-cultivation.
Often, things won't always go smoothly; we may encounter bottlenecks. When we hit a bottleneck, we should clarify the essence of what we're doing; otherwise, the process may become distorted.
Stop and Reflect
Recently, I came across a saying: "If a clock is not accurate, then every second it ticks is wrong. But if the clock stops, at least it is right twice a day."
It reminds me of another saying: "One mistake leads to a cascade of errors."
Looking back at some of my previous decisions, I can't say those decisions were entirely wrong; I just think that if we were to make them now, we could do better.
Not long ago, a friend said my experiences are all about taking risks and not being stable. After thinking about it, I realized that was true; I didn't think thoroughly before making decisions and lacked a clear understanding of the risks involved. So when I saw this saying, it resonated deeply with me.
If you know something is wrong but choose to do it for external reasons, then a collapse is inevitable. For example, if you know that a relationship isn't right, but you can't let go after years of being together, the outcome will surely be messy. Or if you know that a job has no room for growth for you, but you still feel too risk-averse to find something you like, you'll end up suffering through work every day.
I remember many years ago when I went skydiving; I was actually very afraid of heights, but I felt I had to try it at least once. Even though I had a grim face the whole time on the plane, as everyone was scared, especially the instructor, who jumped out at two, leaving me even more confused.
However, being in the air was truly comfortable, even though my face was distorted. When we make choices, we may feel very fearful, but once we choose, we might discover a different world.
Lang Lang hardly goes more than three days without contacting the piano, but once he injured his fingers and needed to rest for three weeks. He said those three weeks allowed him to think clearly about many things, including having time for dating, rather than just living for the piano.
When you realize you are wrong, it’s not the time to rush to correct it, but rather to wait for the right moment to restart. This way, you will gradually find yourself back on the right path. When external forces cause time to deviate again, we just need to rethink and adjust, and then continue on the right path at the right time.
In Conclusion
Today is May 20th. Single guys and gals don’t need to envy others; spend more time thinking about what kind of partner you hope for in the future. You might conclude that if the opposite sex doesn’t work, the same sex might be just fine...
