"Is Persisting in Daily Updates a Self-Satisfying Frenzy?"

Today I saw Yiren's post, mentioning that many people around are doing daily updates recently. If daily updates are meant to promote one's own thinking through output, then daily updates are not necessary, and sharing is not mandatory. One can completely write for oneself and then reflect and review.

Similarly, Teacher Xu Hua has said similar things to me. Initially, I also didn't do daily updates, but later I found that the quality of weekly articles is actually comparable to daily updates, and may even be lower than the current quality of daily updates. Recently, some people who have been following me said that my articles are getting better and better, although I don't feel much of a difference.

Why I want to check in for daily updates

I don't know if you have noticed, but in today's society, as information develops and temptations grow, it is very difficult to persist in many things. For example, I have recently stopped running because the weather is quite cold. I also don't want to get out of bed lately because it’s cold. It seems that cold weather in winter is a very good excuse for us not to persist, yet I can still stick to playing on my phone for a long time.

If you have friends around you who can persist in something for a long time, you must communicate with them more. They are the ones who control their thoughts, not the ones whose thoughts control them. In fact, you can see that I haven't been able to stick to daily updates, but failure means starting over. Experience accumulates, and it’s not about giving up after failing.

When I first started writing on WeChat public accounts, I also aimed for perfection in each article, often overthinking and thus unable to write. In fact, everyone comes from a beginner's village; don’t always think about challenging the BOSS right away. It’s more practical to start by leveling up by fighting level 1 wild boars at the entrance. Once you set a goal, you cannot stop until you complete it step by step, which forces you to persist.

Output forces input

Because of the need to output, I have started a lot of input. Over the past few months, my reading time has almost exceeded 300 hours.

So we cannot just look at it this way. If you are building an IP, there are indeed a few key articles that can help shape your persona. But people often overlook the fact that such individuals are usually very experienced in a certain field, and the articles are just one of their output channels.

Therefore, we need to keep practicing; only this can create positive feedback. When we don’t have enough reserves, we can only keep absorbing new knowledge.

However, I have not seen any leading person in the field stop learning. Even just a couple of days ago at CH, when listening to Sun Yuchen (not discussing specific controversial topics here), he was also continuously learning and reflecting on some of his decisions.

Diligent information cocoon

There is a concept called the information cocoon. Apps like Toutiao and Douyin are primarily algorithm-based recommendation apps. Once you show interest in a certain topic, they will start pushing similar content to you, causing you to become like a pupa, continuously entangled within your own cognitive boundaries.

Why talk about the diligent information cocoon? Many people, including myself, keep repeating low-quality tasks, such as meaningless overtime, ineffective and lengthy meetings, and continuously posting low-quality articles.

This makes it seem like we are very diligent and hardworking. However, we don’t consider how to make meetings more efficient, how to be more organized in our work, how to validate products to better meet user needs, and how to express our points in the shortest and simplest way for users to understand, rather than rambling on about the same thing.

Seek guidance from experts

When you consciously want to improve your writing skills, the most direct way is to find someone you can learn from and let them guide you.

Then consciously execute the improvement suggestions. Stepping out of your comfort zone is always very uncomfortable, but if you want to achieve the second curve, you need to leave what you are familiar with.

For example, I still can’t write a good outline for my articles; I just let myself go and write as I feel, even the title is thought of only before publishing, because I don’t know how the article will turn out.

In fact, finding an expert can provide a direct benefit, allowing you to continuously refine and optimize specific points. During the time I’ve been learning from the great Mu Wen, I also produced a Dragon Ball article. His point was that I just didn’t know how to express myself more efficiently. My ten-plus years of workplace and industry experience is a huge treasure; I just hadn’t realized it before.

If any friends want to join the second phase, I still have one invitation slot available, just message me.

Additionally, Clubhouse has currently given me 2 new slots, so just contact me, first come first served.
