I wonder if you have had this experience: many times we hope to succeed, but when that day really comes, we become afraid and choose to give up.
I have written many articles, but ultimately I have not finished them. Because I fear that I cannot produce them, and then I fulfill my own prophecy, resulting in not being able to write.
Many times, I hope to write articles that are logically clear and filled with substantial content, even conveying my insights from reading to you in the most concise sentences. But I find that I cannot do it, and in the end, I can only choose to abandon it.
I believe everyone has heard the story of Ye Gong and the dragon. It tells of how Ye Gongzi Gao loved dragons and decorated his home with dragon motifs. The dragons in the sky learned of this and came to peek at Ye Gong's house. When Ye Gong saw the real dragon, he was so frightened that he turned pale. This is a metaphor for someone who claims to love something but does not truly love it, or even fears it.
Like me, I hope to be as perfect as possible, but in reality, I do not truly want perfection; perhaps I simply cannot meet the expectations and make excuses.
We often hear that someone succeeded purely by luck. If I had a father like Wang Yiyi, I could definitely do better than him. However, these are all signs of "not being able to win." We find many excuses to show that it is not our lack of ability or understanding, and when the opportunity really comes our way, we will push it away for other reasons.
This way, we can maintain a record of complete victories, at least verbally.
So how do we break this situation?
First, we must admit that we are ignorant. Only by acknowledging our ignorance can we actively seek to learn. Secondly, we should settle for less.
If I cannot run a full marathon, can I run a half marathon? If that doesn't work, can I run 10 kilometers? If not, how about 5 kilometers? Even 3 kilometers is fine.
In Li Xiaolai's book "WeChat Internet Civilian Entrepreneurship," it mentions that self-centered people have distinct and similar characteristics:
I find that every point hits the mark, even more accurately than horoscopes. Many times, I hope to adjust all these annoying traits at once, but I find that aging does not guarantee the accumulation of knowledge. So what if we settle for less? I can always achieve one point; if I can't do that, it's okay, then let's start with one point first.
Reading 100 books a year is too difficult, so can I read one book a month? If not, then how about 10 pages a day?
Earning 1 million a year is too hard, so can I earn 1,000 a month? If not, surely I can find a way to earn an extra 10 yuan a day.
Sticking to running is too difficult, so can I run 4 times a week? If not, then once a week should be doable, right?
……
When we start to settle for less, you will find that many things naturally resolve themselves. Our lives also begin to become more exciting, and we can see our growth every day.
This is the truly effective long-term strategy for us.
